From the President
To members of the Lafayette Parish Medical Society First of all, I would like to welcome you to the Lafayette Parish Medical Society's web site. As we continue to build this site I hope it becomes a reference for everything that we, as a medical society, strive to accomplish, and as a sounding board for your thoughts and for a portal for meaningful discussion regarding organized medicine and a place to receive the latest information on what is going on in state and parish legislation and how it affects the way we practice in these ever changing times. As your 2007 president, I hope to steer the medical society through these times and hopefully continue the road to increased stability of the society, provide continuing education, and continue some of the great things this society has begun in the last few years. Certainly we are going to champion the childhood obesity campaign and continue to be a guiding organization for the Lafayette Emergency Medical Unit (LEMU). Both of these projects have come from members of YOUR ORGANIZATION and certainly should make the members of this organization very proud. This year I would like to also like to help bridge the ever-increasing gap between physicians and lawyers with a mock trial, which I hope to have during the summer meeting. The year 2007 is a time of uncertainty for physicians, with threats to the malpractice cap and changing geographical climates in Louisiana after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, which have shifted doctors all over the state. Lafayette at this time has become poised to be a beacon of insightful change, and I think this society can lead this change both locally and statewide. |
