ANTHONY P. BLALOCK, MD, OF LAFAYETTE ASSUMES PRESIDENCY OF LA. STATE MEDICAL SOCIETY
Lafayette, La. – The 2012 Annual Meeting of the Louisiana State Medical Society’s House of Delegates will be a time to discuss issues and policies for the upcoming year, but it will also mark the official start to the presidency of Anthony P. Blalock, MD.
Dr. Blalock, 37, was elected at last year’s meeting and will be the youngest physician to serve as president of the Society in its 134-year history. He is the third physician from Lafayette Parish Medical Society, following in the footsteps of Dr. James Vildibill (1987-88) and Dr. Edward Harrell (1971-72).

Dear Component Society Leaders:
Glad to see some of you at the House of Delegates this past weekend! Hope all of you made it home safe and sound. I am writing today to ask a huge favor on an upcoming project that the LSMS is working on this spring.
Dr. Andy Schwartz with LSU EJ Ourso College of Business has asked for our assistance in conducting research, in the form of a focus group and electronic survey, to better understand why physicians are reluctant to adopt EHR/EMR technology. This research is intended to be the starting point of a larger national survey to determine what incentives or services, if any, can be offered to assist physicians in adopting new technology. The LSMS believes that this information can be beneficial to the Society and its member physicians so we are asking for your assistance.
We are looking for the names of 15 to 20 geographically dispersed physicians who would be willing to speak with Dr. Schwartz about their reasons for rejecting EMR. Please forward any names to me by Friday, February 11th.
Once we have a list of names, he will take two to three weeks schedule talks with the doctors and anticipates having a survey ready the week of March 6th.
Dr. Scwartz' credentials are below, for your information:
Dr. Andrew Schwarz Associate Professor, Information Systems
Milton J. Womack Developing Scholar
Academic Coordinator for Online Graduate Programs (MBA)
Vice President of Technology, Association for Information Systems
Associate Editor, European Journal of Information Systems
Senior Editor, The DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems
E. J. Ourso College of Business, Louisiana State University
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need any additional information. I'd be happy to discuss in detail at your convenience. Thank you for everything you do for the Society, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best,
Sadie D. Wilks, APR
