Meeting Notes

April 27, 2010

The meeting began with a welcome message and brief introductions from each participant.  A grid was handed out with the request that each person complete it by providing important items and suggestions to improve membership and important positive items to build upon.  The information that follows represents shared comments and suggestions.

Legislative successes more visible

New ways to communicate i.e. Facebook, Twitter, I-Phone

Personal and peer-to-peer contact

New technology

PCMS links on LSMS website

A tool kit to members – How to Start a Practice

Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) support for a permanent solution

Education on Fraud & Abuse

Electronic Medical Records education and support

Cost of membership

 

Volunteering on Councils & Committees:

Provide a mechanism for existing and new member participation

Less behind the scenes decision making

Use as an opportunity for training future leaders

Get more young members involved

 

Public Awareness:

More positive visibility

Collaboration in community efforts i.e. health and wellness

Develop a “Caring Physician of the Year” award with nominations that come from the general public

Name recognition

Promotion

 

Other:

Better relationships and support between PCMS and LSMS

Be mindful of membership shift from private practice to employed

SGR cuts are currently not affecting hospitals, more physicians are partnering with them to avoid reimbursement cuts

Provide new member and/or new physician social

Proactive in lieu of reactive

Non-members are getting something for nothing

Provide an educational training forum on how to use Facebook and Twitter
